NMEW Project

SOUND ALERT PROJECT

Anweshi in collaboration with the National Mission for Empowerment of Women is implementing the Sound Alert Project in Kozhikode district (Calicut) with an aim to create and ensure timely and effective women-centered crisis intervention and counselling by building resource groups of women which would deal with issues of violence and develop strategies of effectively countering violence. The work would focus on mobilizing women to form networks which would sound alert and make immediate intervention with respect to both violence in the home and in public spaces, and this work would be initiated in convergence with both Kudumbashree, the social welfare department and the Asha workers under the NRHM along with the support of Anweshi’s field staff. Gradually the women capable of taking up these issues and making interventions can be developed as resource group in the specific areas. The resource group of women would be given residential trainings on gender related subjects including the legal provisions. This would be an effort to declare some parts of Kozhikode district, violence free zones.
